The original Lego Speed Racer sets from 2008-2009 are a discontinued theme and are generally only available from re-sellers. The current and widely available theme featuring various real-world car models is called Lego Speed Champions.
Original Lego Speed Racer Sets (Discontinued)
The original theme, based on the 2008 film Speed Racer, included four sets that are no longer in production. These sets featured vehicles and minifigures of characters from the movie.
Speed Racer & Snake Oiler (Set number: 8158): Featured the iconic Mach 5 and Snake Oiler's car, with minifigures of the two characters.
Racer X & Taejo Togokhan (Set number: 8159): Included two race cars and minifigures of Racer X and Taejo Togokhan.
Cruncher Block & Racer X (Set number: 8160): Featured a semi-truck and a race car, along with minifigures of Racer X, Cruncher Block, and others.
Grand Prix Race (Set number: 8161): The largest set, it included the Mach 6 and GRX race cars, other vehicles, and multiple minifigures.
Current Lego Speed Champions Sets
The "Speed Champions" line, launched in 2015, offers authentic brick-built replicas of cars from brands like Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, and Lamborghini. These sets are readily available.
